While engineers developed more and more complex systems to prevent guitar amplifiers from distorting, artists leaned into it. Distortion led to the creation of rock and roll, metal, punk, etc. Artists let the medium shape what they create.
Today, most AI developers try to prevent all the textual and visual distortions models create, whereas artists lean into it and create weird, disturbing, but also delightful art using those distortions. Like for music, it’s likely what artists and designers learn from using AI in creative ways that will feed back into its development.
